DMC is the classic reboot of capcom’s Devil May Cry series. Set in a modern-day Britain, DMC is an alternate universe of Devil May Cry (a reboot as some would call it). The player takes control of Dante as he goes across “Limbor” a parallel world were demons exist and control the world from behind the scene. In this timeline of Devil May Cry the world is controlled behind the scenes by demons to be more specific the Demon King Mundus. Mundus plans to kill Dante so that nothing is in his way of world domination, note only a Nephilim can kill mundus, not knowing of vergil as Dante’s brother just seeing him as some random terrorist Mundus only focus on the extermination of Dante. I Know this new version of Dante isn’t a fan favorite, but I’m quite fond of the character development this Dante goes through; his views change as the game progresses from a self-absorbed and egotistical to a caring and altruist person; As shown at the end fight with vergil when Dante disagrees with his ideology over mankind in which Dante vows to protect. Dante’s overall goal of the game was to get revenge against those who tore his family apart.
Let’s be a little honest here, Devil May Cry while having a fun story it really hasn’t been the easiest to follow (that is until the internet). DMC definitely has the more solid story of the two versions, Solid people not better just it’s solid compared to Devil may cry is actual the sequel to Devil may cry 2 as Devil may cry 2 is actually the beginning while Devil may cry 4 is in between 2 and 3; which introduced Nero who caused a whole new list of fan theories the more potent one of the bunch is Vergil being Nero’s father but hopefully that is something we get a answer to in Devil May Cry 5. I digress, DMC holds a fairly strong story line putting to good use the conspiracies theories of 21st century era ranging anywhere from the government and media being controlled by a shadow organization to our food sources being poisoned to keep us as a society idle. For those who have been long time fans of the Devil May Cry series than you’ll love the classic “Bloody palace” mode, I personally have friends who claimed it was much easier due to the simplifying to the combos and how quick it was to get the multiplier up. On this I disagree, I think there are those who have played OG Devil may Cry and love those difficult old school multiple button arthritis combos and there are those who came in around Devil may Cry 3 and 4 and never really got the complaint about the simplifying on the combos mainly because we didn’t experience it or we probably did but are too young to remember or we do and hate it because it make gaming in our childhood so hard. My only grief with the bloody palace is that it’s DLC but since this game is a few years old you can pick it up or digitally download it as a package all for 20 bucks. If you haven’t then I recommend it, especially with the upcoming Devil May Cry 5 coming out soon it’s a great alternative to hold you over when taking brakes from playing Devil May Cry 4.
Overall, I think fans of Devil May Cry will enjoy this Alternate universe of Devil May Cry, if they can open up to a different take on a fan favorite Dante with a different origin story (still the same just a little different). I love the same and it has every right to sit next to my other DMC series collection, replaying between DMC and Devil May Cry 4. Serious love/ hate balance going on with the bloody palace.
