As the clock ticked away, the closer it got to the end of the school day the louder the gears get. Clovefield foot constantly tapping away, “ Hey, you wanna put a motor on that thing?” the girl beside her says causing Clovefield’s foot to slow pace before stopping altogether, “ Sorry, Diaz just I’m excited for the weekend.” Clovefield sticks the tail of her tongue slightly biting it as it sways from side to side. Diaz leans over letting her long thick dark brown hair almost touch the floor, letting out a smile that allows the braces in her mouth to reflect the bright lights above. The ringing bell shocks both of them with the teacher having to wave his arms and shout to get the students who already rushed out of the room to hear the last of the weekend assignment. As Clovefield made her way to the front of the room, walking between organized rows of the desk she was quickly greeted by Frank standing by the door. She raised her eyebrow, tilting her head at him “What? surprised your boy can be somewhere on time?”, “more like surprised to see you with books in your hand”, she replies with a half-covered smile visible only through her fingers “oh these? They are for you actually” her chuckle turns to embarrassment and shock as he passes her a series of books each sharing a similar theme but changing in context and size but one really caught her eye. IT was all black with a thin purple streak down the spine, the cover was blank, she grabs it and pushes the rest back to Frank, “Hey you doing anything this weekend?”, He struggles to maintain the books with one hand while letting his other hand rest on his chin “no, nothing I can think of….wait, no that’s next weekend. No, I’m free, why?”, “I need help studying or at the least help finding some information.” He looks over at her then at the books “Alright but we are going to need help and I don’t think you’ll like who I have in mind.” Clovefield once again raises her eyebrow curious to what he was about to say.
“ As they walk through the parking lot “Mianae Grimm! really.” She scoffs picking up the pace before beeping for her car to unlock and slamming her door shut while Frank grips the handle and it slips right out of his hand, “Hey….come on Clove open the door, these books are getting heavy.” She exhales giving herself a moment before inhaling and exhaling again, unlocking the door in the process “She has one time Frank” she says, he begins to respond but sees the exhaustion under her eyes then nods. Clovefield cranks the car, it‘s loud engine roars into the school parking lot like the tires squeal.
Frank spends several minutes looking out into the open plain fields and forest of Severn, “Okay, so I gotta ask what the hell is the issue with you and Mianae Grimm? I mean you two go from best…”, “Drop it, Frank!” She stops him short making him choke on his upcoming words as he realizes this was a touchy subject but he didn’t understand why; by now it had been years and to his knowledge five or six at the least or so he thought to himself what could have possibly happened between two friends that leave a grudge that long-lasting. “I just don’t…”, “sweet goddess Oya, Frank!” she shouts, slamming the gas pedal to the floor, accelerating to insane speeds down the straightaway, the power of the v8 forcing Frank to sink into the passenger seat. Pulling into her garage she quickly hops out, almost forgetting to close the garage door as she pulls in and gets out. Frank is slow to get out of the car, mostly because there were a decent amount of books he had to carry inside, plus his backpack but he knew if Clovefield hurried away it’s mostly cause he had done something to piss her off. He enters the house to Bee meowing as she rubs against his leg he looks down with a cheerful smile that Bee compliments with another meow, making his way over to the living room table and sets the books on it. He takes his seat on the sofa waiting for Clovefield to reappear but Bee takes the time to jump up on the table. She sniffs up and down before pressing the corners of the book against her cheeky whiskers before looking towards Frank and meowing in a loud high pitch whine.
Meanwhile, Clovefield rummaged through the basement her fingers unnaturally flickering through flies in a cabinet when the light bulb clicks on in her mind. She made it to the ‘C’ folders as most of the files went by the last name first. Taking this particular light green folder out of the drawer, pinching the bridge of her nose as if trying to connect her eyes, she was overthinking and she knew it but never the less found herself pushing through and opening the file, her eyes gazed upon a man with deep rich golden brown skin with a beard that could chisel a mountain cliff which was only fitting seeing his size, it took two photographs to have a complete image of him. She really didn’t know how much time had gone by but she was aware of her eyes beginning to water as she thought to herself, She goes to say the words but it was impossible with her mouth so dry, then the doorbell buzzes hearing it clear as day even from the basement.
